A4HealthPlus™ (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy and personal health information (“PHI”) when you access our private virtual healthcare services. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information in compliance with:

  • Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (AB PIPA)

  • British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (BC PIPA)

  • Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), where applicable

 

1. Scope of Services

A4HealthPlus™ is a private online medical clinic providing virtual healthcare services, including but not limited to:

  • General medical consultations

  • Mental health assessments and follow-up care

  • Chronic disease management

  • Lifestyle and preventive health counselling

  • Prescription services

  • Laboratory and referral requests

 

Healthcare services are provided exclusively by independently licensed physicians authorized to practice in Alberta and British Columbia. All clinical decisions, including prescribing and referrals, are made by the treating physician in accordance with professional standards and provincial regulations.

Services are provided on a private-pay basis and are not covered or reimbursed by provincial health insurance plans, including the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) or the British Columbia Medical Services Plan (MSP).

Some private or extended health insurance plans may reimburse eligible services; however, coverage varies by insurer and policy. Patients are responsible for confirming eligibility and submitting claims directly to their private insurance provide

 

2. Information We Collect

To provide safe and effective care, we collect the following information:

 

Personal Health Information (PHI)

  • Medical history and presenting concerns

  • Mental health assessments

  • Diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and referrals

  • Laboratory results and follow-up notes

 

Personal Identifiable Information (PII)

  • Full name

  • Date of birth

  • Address

  • Email address

  • Phone number

 

Payment Information

  • Payment details related to private services

Payment processing is handled through secure third-party providers. A4HealthPlus™ does not store full credit card details.

 

What We Do Not Collect

  • Browsing activity unrelated to service delivery

  • Personal data not required for clinical care or administration

  • Third-party marketing data

 

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide virtual medical consultations and treatment

  • Assess eligibility for prescriptions or referrals

  • Communicate appointment information and follow-up care

  • Maintain accurate medical records

  • Meet legal, regulatory, and professional obligations

Your information is never sold or used for advertising purposes.

 

4. Disclosure of Information

We disclose personal information only when necessary, including:

  • To physicians and healthcare professionals directly involved in your care

  • To pharmacies or laboratories at your request or where clinically required

  • When required by law (e.g., public health reporting, court orders, regulatory audits)

  • To secure service providers supporting clinic operations, subject to strict confidentiality and privacy safeguards

5. Data Storage & Security

A4HealthPlus™ uses industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including:

  • Encryption of electronic medical records and communications

  • Secure access controls and authentication

  • Data storage on secure servers located in Canada, in accordance with provincial data residency requirements

Certain limited services (such as appointment reminders or video conferencing) may involve temporary data processing outside Canada. Where this occurs, appropriate safeguards are applied in compliance with applicable privacy legislation.

6. Retention of Medical Records

Medical records are retained in accordance with provincial regulatory requirements:

  • Alberta: A minimum of 10 years from the date of last entry, or 2 years after the patient reaches the age of majority (18), whichever is longer

  • British Columbia: A minimum of 16 years from the date of last entry, or 16 years after the patient reaches the age of majority (19), whichever is later

Records are securely destroyed when retention periods expire, unless otherwise required by law.

7. Your Rights & Access to Information

Under AB PIPA, BC PIPA, and PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal health information

  • Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete information

  • Withdraw consent where legally permissible

  • Request deletion of personal information when no longer required by law

8. Care for Minors & Substitute Decision-Makers

Virtual healthcare services may be provided to minors when clinically appropriate. For patients under the age of majority, consent must be provided by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized substitute decision-maker, unless the physician determines the patient has legal capacity to consent under applicable provincial law.

9. Website Use & Cookies

Our website may use essential cookies and basic analytics tools to improve functionality and user experience. These tools do not collect personal health information. You may disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may affect website performance.

10. Emergency Care Limitation

A4HealthPlus™ does not provide emergency medical services. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or attend the nearest emergency department immediately.
